About a year ago someone was asked to submit a biography for a souvenir programme. He did so and it was published without changes, and without comment from him. A few weeks ago he instructed the same editor (not me, btw) who was putting together a new programme to use the same write-up from last year. Having seen it in print, he is now upset that the write-up wasn’t edited for changes.
Since 2002 when I retired from active showjumping, I have been happy to be pegged as a polo player. That many assume polo is all I have ever done in my equestrian life was brought home the other night when a visiting English saleslady. She blithely pronounced ‘ You polo players don’t know how to ride.’
Are polo players necessarily bad horsemen? To play a shot of a stationary, rolling or bouncing ball while galloping flat out demands more than just hitting skills. Youâve got to be able to read the play and get your horse to the exact spot you need to be in to connect with the ball.
