Jump-Off XIII
Thursday, March 6th, 2003

What’s a Jump-Off without more stories from the Land of the Blind? We have commissions, non-rhyming verse, the long-awaited return of Mr Ed. Let there be light!

What’s in a name – Part 349

Now that the Selangor Polo & Riding Club (SP&RC) has received a royal warrant and has changed its name to become the Royal Selangor Polo Club, its abbreviation is RSPC. It will hold the RSPC Annual Show in August this year. That wouldn’t make it the RSPCA Show, now would it?

Amanda Commander Commissioned

She earned her nickname of Amanda Commander as a steward in CSI-W World Cup Shows and at the ’98 Asian Games. Now Amanda really is Amanda Commander.

Congratulations are in order to Mrs. Amanda Garran, who has been given the honourary rank of Major in her capacity of trainer at the Malaysian Armed Forces Equestrian Centre.

Still In Some Other Equestral Zone

They like to be different in the Land of the Blind. I suppose that’s why they keep wanting to affiliate to a different FEI from the rest of the world. On the Bukit Timah Saddle Club website it says,“We are affiliated to the Equestrian Federation of Singapore (EFS), which is a member of the Federation Equestra International (EFI) in Paris.”

You’d think that the vertically challenged Poobah Emeritus Dr. Low Hong Tong, would have known that (a) it is the FEI (Federation Equestre Internationale) and not EFI (Equestrian Federation of India) and (b) the FEI is based in Lausanne, Switzerland and not Paris, France. P.E. is, after all, also the Hon. Secretary and Great Grand Webmaster of the EFS. He corrected the EFS website of the whole equestra thing after Jump-Off XI.

Jump-Off does not believe it is something in the Newater.

Unsafe Verse

Be it not so safe to sit on any seat
Far safer for horsemen to mount their trusted steeds

Jump-Off will not hear any criticisms of this lovely little verse, despite the lack of rhyme or the uncertain meter. It is taken from the News section of the Bukit Timah Saddle Club website.

Unlike the rhyme, the photo that it accompanies is pretty funny. The BTSC website appears to poke fun at it. It shows the Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Goh Chok Tong, Singapore Turf Club’s Executive Deputy Chairman Goh Yong Hong and BTSC and EFS Chairman Dr. Leong Horn Kee hitting the deck. Let it not be said that they don’t have a sense of humour down there.

Mr Ed Returns

The popular 1960s TV sitcom Mister Ed, which featured a talking horse, is set to return to the screen in a modern-day remake.

Reports that a prominent Malaysian personality has been contracted to play Mr Ed are as yet unconfirmed.

The lytes are on, but ain’t no one home

This is a true story was remembered by an Equestrian.Com.My staffer.

A customer went into a tack shop in the clubhouse of a big equestrian club in KL. He asked one of the staff there “Do you have any electrolytes?” To which the classic reply was “Sorry we don’t sell any light bulbs.”
