All Shows in August
Yup, it’s almost April and despite the promise of 17 national and
international shows in 2003, not one has happened yet. Prompting
an old cynic to remark, “As usual, all 17 shows will be held in the
month of August.”
Not-So-VIW
Jump-Off is very sad to say that our favourite VIW has lost one of his
oh-so-important titles. (Please see Jump-Off VIII) He is no
longer on the committee of the Singapore Polo Club. Which means
he has had to give up his title of convenor of the club’s riding
section. Jump-Off thinks this is really unfair for such an
important person who has achieved so much in equestrian sports.
(For VIW’s past achievements, please see Jump-Off IX)
Trustee or not Trustee?
The same said Not-So-VIW stood for the newly created post of Trustee of
the Singapore Polo Club at their recently concluded. And finished
dead last in the voting. That makes VIW the Un-Trustee?
That is the question.
Open Book or not, as the case may be.
Misery loves company, so let us tell you about another Equestrian
Convenor at a certain club in Kuala Lumpur, who recently took an open-book test in her second attempt to seek qualification as an
introductory level judge. You’d think the words “This is an Open
Book Test” and the fact that they were allowed to take the test back as
homework might have tipped her off. Yet when asked
about a particular rule, she is alleged to have written, “Never heard of it.”
Did Misery pass? Let’s give you two choices:
o No, and
o No Way
KLIS-Watch
Things change so fast that we will devote a special section just to
KLIS rumours.
In case you are behind on the news, the Kuala Lumpur International Showjumping event will not happen in April, but has been rescheduled to October 2003. From our count, this is the 3rd time that this show has been rescheduled since 1998.
KLIS organisers Asiapromote has asked the Treasury to underwrite the costs of the show. The show’s budget
is a modest RM. 14 million or just US$ 3.68 million.
The news that emerged during the recent EAM
dialogue is that the Ministry of Finance has yet to make a financial
commitment to KLIS.
Congratulations are in order:
To Malik Jeremiah for being given a Special Award by the National Sports
Council. Jump-Off is especially pleased that Malik managed to receive his special award humously. Unlike fellow recipient, A. Perumal, who received
his posthumously.
(Which brings us to the question that one of our
blur friends asked when we tried out the above, but using “the late, A Perumal,” instead of as it appears above. He asked, “Why you say the ‘late A Perumal,’ ah? I
thought Malik is the one who is sometimes late.”)
To Taman Equine’s Matthew Davies on his recent
engagement to long-time English girlfriend, Anthea.
Heartbreaker!
To Brian Miller, self-named One-Eyed Jack, on his return to the committee of the Singapore Polo Club as Vice-President and Convenor of Greendale Riding School, oops, we mean the SPC Riding Section.
