The Edaran Endurance Classic 40km & 60km race was run for the first
time at the new equestrian center Ar-Raudhah yesterday. It was held in
conjunction with the 2003 FEI World Jumping Challenge supported by PSI,
which will continue this morning and afternoon.
There were 20 starters in the 60km category. The winner of this
category was Datin Lara Hussein of Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country
Resort (BKECR), riding the 2001 SEA Games champion Elsi de l'Aigoual. Datin Lara won the race in a very fast
time of 3hrs 59mins 10secs, followed closely by Azhar Abu Bakar on
Colorado (TMKN) with a time of 3hrs 59mins 53secs. In third place was
Razali Harun on Pasha (TMKN) with a time of 4hrs 15mins 55 secs.
When asked about her win, Datin Lara said, “I’m feeling really great.
And am very happy but I must give credit to my horse, Elsie. She is a
great horse. It was well organized and it (Ar-Raudhah) had a good
track. I did find the competition tougher this time because there were
more riders with better horses.”
In the 40km category, the youngest participant in this endurance race,
Norhafazi bin Wan Norzehan riding Willy of TMKN emerged the winner with
a time of 4hrs. He was closely followed by Aizzat on G.Girl with a time
of 4hrs 0mins 05 secs and in third place was, Tarmizy on Evita with a
time of 4hrs 0mins 06secs. Both Aizzat and Tarmizy were registered as
individuals.
Lawrence Liew, EAM’s Endurance Sub-Committee Chairman told ECM, “After
the success of this event, I think the committee has more or less
agreed to have this venue for future races. Especially for
international endurance races of longer distances, maybe upto 120kms.
Now all the participants are looking forwards to the next race which
will be in Johor UiTM. This will be held on the 14th and 15th of June
and will be an International FEI* 80km race.”
