The Equestrian Awards 2002 were presented recently at EPSB’s Gala Dinner. Since the nice name of The Equestrian Awards 2002 has already been used, Jump-Off is left to present:
NOT-THE-EQUESTRIAN AWARDS 2002
Jump-Off would like to offer Husref Malik the Not-The-Eventer of the Year Award. Husref would have won the EPSB version of Eventer of the Year if only he could have been bothered to submit some results to the EAM. Presumably they’ll be told if he qualifies for the Olympics.
The Not-A-Happening-Thing Award 2002 goes to the EAM Grading System. It also wins this award for 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997 and 1996.
The We-Love-You-Really Award goes to Busan Asian Games Chief Steward N Y Ho. This award will be presented to him by the EAM.
Best TV Coverage of the Year goes to a certain TV channel (hint: Seven) for coverage Datuk Awang’s, oops, we mean Malaysia’s historic bid to win the endurance event at the World Equestrian Games. Datuk Awang didn’t start and none of the other Malaysians finished. Neither did the scheduled reports.
Norlaily Bunyamin wins the 2002 Fall of the Year Award for falling off just 10 km into the World Equestrian Games Endurance Ride. She spent longer trying to catch the horse than actually riding the race.
Best Reason For Falling Off Award goes to Wan Ming who hit the deck after a tree jumped out in front of her horse on a training derby course at STC.
The MacDonald’s Award goes to the Centenary Barbeque, which never happened and Big Macs had to be served.
RSPC also wins the Bring Your Own Judge Award. Visiting riders turned up for a training show only to find there was no judge for showjumping equitation and one of the visiting instructors had to be roped in to judge. This award replaces the previously highlighted Bring Your Own Boom-box Award also won by RSPC.
The Muhammad Ali Award is jointly won by visiting trainers Jason Cheon and Chris Chugg, who did their best version of a pre-match hype without actually throwing any punches in the warm-up arena of the SEA League World Cup Final.
Best Nama Award goes to Pierre de BASTARD. De Bastard competed for France in eventing at the World Equestrian Games 2002.
Never one to miss out, Jump-Off is pleased to present a whole section of awards devoted to TLOTB.
Website of the Year Award goes to the Equestrian Federation of Singapore website www.efs.org.sg, which subtly tried to claim Quzandria Nur as Singaporean. Oh, and lest we forget, it proudly has a total of “7 pages, 4 logos, and nine photos.”
Apology of the Year Award goes to Equestrian.Com.My for apologizing to Rolex and the Singapore Polo Club when made to by the Singapore Polo Club for saying that the Rolex Polo and Equestrian Championships 2002 were off. Of course, it’s not off. We wouldn’t dare say it is off. It’s just a little delayed. Maybe they’ll have the 2002 and 2003 shows together and we’ll have double apologies to make.
Sucker of the Year Award goes to Peter Abisheganaden for going to France to buy a new showjumper only to have his federation submit a NIL nomination for entry to the Asian Games 2002.
W*nker of the Year goes to…..He Who Shall Not Be Named. What the heck, anyone who reads Jump-Off knows who you are anyway.
The Come-Back-To-Singapore-And-We’ll-Show-You-How-Much-We-Really-Love-You Award goes to Peter Abisheganaden for editions I to XVIII of Jump-Off.
