The page that outs them all

Omar Outed

Equestrian.Com.My would like to apologise for publishing wrong information in the Syed Omar Interview. We published that his plan was the ride at Stuttgart (19 – 23 Nov), Munich (28 Nov – 1 Dec) in Germany and Olympia (18 – 22 Dec) in Great Britain. It turns out that he’ll have to miss Stuttgart and Olympia because…, well because the EAM didn’t reply to the organisers by the closing dates.

Not all is lost as Omar is still entered for Munich simply because organisers were nice enough to let him. Stuttgart and Olympia organisers were reportedly quite put out that having been kind enough to extend the invitation to Omar via the Malaysian federation, a.k.a. Equestrian Association of Malaysia, there was no reply before the final closing date for entries.

Jump-Off simply can’t understand why these nasty organisers would give away Omar’s place. To think, just because the EAM didn’t reply before the closing date. Can you believe that! So what if there were 100+ riders on the waiting list! What means closing date anyway? Don’t you know we’re Malaysian - nobody enters shows on time!

Major Congratulations

Jump-Off sends our congratulations to the EAM Officials promoted recently by the FEI. Double celebrations are in order for EAM Executive Secretary Major Yap Mou Soon, who not only was promoted to FEI International status as a jumping judge, he also recently graduated with a Masters of Business Administration from the Irish International Open University, a degree he earned by attending night classes.

(So Omar, if you were hoping for an answer, it’s called too much night school.)

Vote Fixin’ (No, not you George W.)

The Philippines’ Michelle Barrera and Malaysia’s Qabil Ambak finished level in our vote! for South East Asian Rider of the Year 2003 with 93 votes each. In fact they were level almost every step of the way. If Qabil got one ahead, Michelle would come back, and vice versa.

How very sweet. And do they boria with their dressing yet?

First Ulla, Now Di

First Ulla Salzgeber’s Rusty 47 was shot up with Testosterone. Now Horse & Hound reports that Di Lampard’s ride Abbervail Dream tested positive for Valerian and felbinac acid at CSIO***** Rome. In both cases only a disqualification and a fine were meted out, but there was no customary suspension from the FEI. Jump-Off wouldn’t dare suggest the FEI is being lenient on women in its war on drugs.

Studspeak

The National Stud Farm postponed their National Premier Sale, issuing a statement that said, “…the farm has taken the proactive stance in arriving at the decision pending the outcome of the results of tests conducted to ascertain the condition of the horses.”

Which didn’t exactly tell you why they would even consider a postponement. Couldn’t you just strangle ‘em. Geddit? Geddit?

Hello, Goodbye

It was not so long ago that we were welcoming back Margaret Robinson in Jump-Off XIX. Turns out Margaret may not have been all that welcome to some of the folks at Taman Equine. So it’s farewell again, Margaret.

No Quarterhorse

A true story from 1997: French Farrier Patrick Ferrer was in Kuala Lumpur on a UNIC sponsored visit. Requiring a thick juicy steak after a long day at the forge, Patrick was taken to Jake’s Charbroiled Steaks, at Medan Damansara. Being a rather large boy, it was suggested to Patrick that he try the Porterhouse steak, one of their largest cuts. The Frenchman reacted with horror, “Ah no, no, no! I don’t eat horse. No Quarterhorse!!”
