Is Kuala Lumpur in Singapore or has Singapore bought the CSI***** KL Grand Prix as part of the new causeway agreement? Who is the saddlery “expert” who flunked out? Which regional championships doesn’t the FEI know about? The page that does the big chief monkey business is back with all these technical lines.
Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix in Singapore?
This snapshot was taken off Alla Polomieva’s Sporthorsecm website.
Somehow Jump-Off just doesn’t think that the CSI***** KL Grand Prix will be held in Singapore this year, next year or anytime in the future.
More likely this is a case of that Russian Bird ‘Flu that’s been doing the region.
Big Chief Monkey Business
The Star reported on Tuesday 3rd February, “The chariot procession for the Thaipusam festival this year will, for the first time, be led by a team of horseback riders, including a monkey. Forest Horse Riding Park’s owner, known by his moniker ‘Big Chief’, said his team of 12 riders, including himself, a monkey, 11 horses and two ponies would join Hindu devotees for the Thaipusam celebration.”
In the article, Big Chief claims to have lived in ranches in North America. He is quoted as saying, “I have trained a monkey to ride a pony.”
All Jump-Off has to say about this is “Geronimo!”
Just a small matter of election
A certain well-connected Datuk has been rumoured to have “represented” Malaysia at international equestrian meetings even though he isn’t actually on the EAM Management Council. Just another case of its whom you know, rather than who was elected?
South East Asian Open Championships
Wow, we have a whole new South East Asian Showjumping Open Championships. We are *yawn* so excited. These “SEA Showjumping Open Championships” is so much like the FEI World Challenge that we are having difficulty telling them apart.
Jump-Off is always keen to support original thought, if it is indeed original and for the good of the sport. What does seem to be original is that the SEA Showjumping Open Championships will be held in arenas just 36 x 72 m. If you thought the World Challenge arenas were small, these will be even smaller. Why, you ask? Perhaps it’s because Khun Tao's arena in his Equestrian Paradice is that size. You would never guess there are larger arenas in Thailand.
The one bright spot is that they have a truly world-class course designer in Paul Weier.
What’s in a name, Part 749
Jump-Off did a little checking with the EAM and FEI about the “South East Asian Showjumping Open Championships” because the only news we were able to find about it was published on a Singaporean (or is that Russian) website.
Neither the EAM nor the FEI seems to know anything about these regional “championships.” Did the website jump the gun, or has someone been acting outside of his role in the EAM? Which brings up the interesting question as to how they managed to name it the “South East Asian Showjumping Open Championships” if the FEI doesn’t know anything about it?
What an expert
Which Kiara showjumping rider and newly commercialized “saddlery expert” has temporarily given up jumping? Despite two new jumpers in the past three seasons, she has “run out” of jumpers. Now Jump-Off hears she’s Fleoled the pretty basic Senior Horse Management examination as well.
Break a leg…
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Tuan Syed Bakar Almohdzar from fractures in one of his legs, suffered in a fall late last year.
Transitions
Cynthia Ee, formerly of Greendale Riding School and Glomac Equestrian Centre, has resigned as Riding Manager from the Singapore Polo Club.
The MSN kids of the Bukit Jalil Sports School have been shifted from their equestrian base from the Selangor Turf Club Equestrian Centre to the Malaysian Armed Forces Equestrian Centre at TUDM.
