The Equestrian Awards 2003 were recently presented at EPSB’s Gala Dinner at the Palace of the Golden Horses. (Your favourite Equestrian.Com.My was awarded the Best Media Prize, something we won’t be letting you forget already.) Since the nice name of The Equestrian Awards has already been taken, Jump-Off presents our 2nd Annual…
NOT-THE-EQUESTRIAN AWARDS
Here’s goes another year (and a few more friends):
And The Greg Louganis Award for Best Dive of the Year goes to…..

No. 104 at CIC-W Melbourne
The Driver of the Year goes to the Judi Board for donating RM 8 m to the Bus Drivers School in Penang and RM 42 m to the Motorsports Academy.
The Best Non-Press Release Award – goes to the National Stud Farm for its non-disclosure that it had Strangles.
That was a very good PR job indeed, but the winner of the Best PR Job goes to the 2005 Manila SEA Games equestrian organisers who have everyone convinced that dressage is “too expensive” to organise.
The 007 Award – goes to Dr Nik Isahak, who pecah lobang about all sorts of formerly secret endurance news, like that Malaysia used to own Europe’s best Endurance horse…before it was sold to UAE.
The Best Way to Spend Riding School Money Award goes to the Turf Club that funded a trip to Argentina with Tun Dr Mahathir, while he was still Prime Minister. Only the riding school’s budget was invited, not the staff or pupils.
The Best Eye-Wash Award goes to TLOTB for attempting to fix their myopia in ditching the Doc.
The Equestrian Convenor of the Year – goes to Major Yap Mou Soon, simply for taking over at RSPC.
The Best Non-Sponsors Award goes to the Turf Club (again!) that almost sponsored the KL Grand Prix. The press conference boards still had their logo on it, because their RM 1 m reversal came on the eve of the show.
And the Best Co-Chairman Award goes to the D-Man, who had nothing to do with the Best Non-Sponsors neither.
The Still-Not-A-Happening-Thing Award – is won by the EAM’s Grading System for the 101st consecutive year. The long-dead horses that remain on this list are not to be deleted as they are awaiting reincarnation.
The Long-Lost Brudder Award goes to …
Abdul Salim, Geoff Billington’s Malaysian “brother,” a.k.a. Abdul Billington. Unfortunately Salim’s English brother didn’t make it for Proton KL Grand Prix 2004.
And the Best Mirror Image of a Show – is a deadheat between
- the South East Asian Open Showjumping and the FEI World Jumping Challenge, and
- the Malaysian Open and the Merdeka Masters
Our Equestrian Streaker of the Year is Mahlah Hoffmann for her wonderful use of chapettes.
And on a more serious note, we award the Best Show Organisers Award to Asiapromote Ventures for KL Grand Prix 2003, the first ever CSI 5* show to be held in South East Asia and the basis of which the FEI awarded the 2006 World Cup Final to Kuala Lumpur.
Congratulations to all the winners. You are the real stars of Jump-Off. For those of you who didn’t make this list, fret not. There is still a Jump-Off every month to stake your claim to fame.
