You have to bear in mind that Mr. Autry's
favorite horse was named Champion. He ain't ever had one called Runner Up ~ Gene Mauch
The Blonde Bomb
A certain country's premature celebration of its foreign talent in their SEA Games equestrian team was brought to a dive-bombing end in the team event when two airborne strikes to ground positions ended their Manila campaign. Formerly the Blonde Bombshell, she is now known simply as "The Bomb."
Blonde Results
A Blonde website from TLOTB reported the wrong team penalties of the SEA Games team final. In reality Malaysia had 24, and Thailand 44 penalties and not 20 and 60 as reported.
Concussion, presumably?
Trot-Up Wars
Which country lodged an official protest against a rider who was given exemption from trotting her horse up herself? The rider had a Medical Certificate stating she was fit to ride, though not to trot-up. The protest was eventually withdrawn.
Singspeak
"The falls proved costly for Singapore as the team finished fourth overall."
The Straits Times awards fourth place in the SEA Games to the eliminated Singapore jumping team.
Mail Madness
"He was in Manila last week to participate in the last two legs (sixth and seventh) of the SEA League, which acted as the World Cup qualifier. Astride Cora, Syed Omar won the sixth leg but was fourth in the seventh."
The Malay Mail creates a phantom World Cup and gives it to Syed Omar.
Talented Boy
"The Ryder’s Cup is equivalent to the F1 in motor sport."
He's so special The Star has Syed Omar become a Ryder Cup golfer too.
What a pretty mound you have
"The pretty 32-year-old pride of Lipa City, on top of her favorite mound Globe Platinum Maktub, edged Hong Kong’s Charlotte Morse in a jump-off ..."
The Manila Bulletin has Toni Leviste top of the hill.
Taken for a ride
Malaysian journalists covering the Manila SEA Games would tour using its famous jeepneys. But some adventurous ones preferred the horse carriage for their sightseeing, only to be fleeced. When asked why it cost US$50 (RM190) for a 15-minute ride the reply they got was that food and medical treatment for the upkeep of horses was expensive.
Tell us something we don't know, bro.
Gitmo Gold
Despite its own brand of excellent service, Gitmo may be closing its riding school. Their riding school horses are up for sale. But if you are thinking of buying one, you'll still have to pay them RM11.00 for the privilege of a trial ride. Commented one wag, "They've never had so much income from their riding school."
Nappy Nonsense
A Maltese court has ruled that diapers for horses amount to cruelty. Not that anyone has tried to sell them in Malaysia. Nope, nobody we know...
