Malaysia's best polo player Sariman Sharil passes away
Monday, March 20th, 2006
Malaysia's best-ever polo player Sariman Sharil passed away this morning.Sariman was handpicked by the Royal Pahang Polo Club as a young lad, and spent summers learning the game in Argentina.
In a stellar polo career, Sariman played professionally in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, The Philippines, Pakistan, Australia, Argentina, USA, and England, reaching a highest international handicap of +6, the highest ever of a Malaysian.
Sariman was the first Malaysian ever to play professionally in USA. Sariman counted going from +1 to +4 in winning the Pope Challenge Cup in 1995 in Santa Barbara, USA as his most memorable occasion in polo. He was a 7-time winner of the Rolex International in Singapore, and countless other tournaments around the world.
Coming back from a year off polo in his battle with cancer, Sariman had an outstanding season in 2005, winning the BRDB Polo Tournament and the Ranhill International Polo Tournament. Fittingly he was an inaugural winner of the RMPA International League with Royal Pahang Polo Club.
Sariman is survived by his wife Norita and a two-year old daughter Nur Ain Najwa.
The Royal Selangor Polo Club will be raising funds for his family, starting at the Hookahs Tournament on 7-9 April.
Equestrian.Com.My send our deepest condolences to his family, and to the Royal Pahang Polo Club who have lost one of their own.
Condolence messages and tributes have been pouring in from around the world.
