A fly may sting a stately horse and make him wince; but one is but an insect, and the other is a horse still ~ Samuel Johnson
Winging It For The World Cup
The Ministry of Finance and Equestrian Association of Malaysia have come together to help out the cash-strapped organization of the KL World Cup Final. The EAM’s EGM to approve three resolutions that would enable the association to channel monies to the WCF organisers was adjourned from 20th March to 30th March for want of a quorum. Member clubs finally agreed to “rectify and approve” the "loan /advance" to the World Cup organisers, some of which had already been paid to the FEI.
Jump-Off simply refuses to listen to talk that the EAM acted unconstitutionally by making large payments without member club’s prior approval. It would be nice though if the EAM kept their promise to complete an audit and publish their accounts, which are just, err, four years overdue.
Subscribing Volunteers
We’ve heard of volunteers, and even oxymorons such as paid volunteers. Recently a charity close to our hearts got even closer to our pockets when as volunteers we were asked to pay a RM30.00 “subscription.” Jump-Off has no moron words to describe a situation where the volunteer pays to volunteer.
Penile Humour
To those of you who were offended by this year's April Fool's article Polo & Equestrian National Interest Society formed, we don't sincerely apologise. We didn't think you'd be that offended by our PENIS as it was just a small joke on our part.
Fishy Story
After the monsoon season, a rider was surprised to find a live fish flapping about on a “polo field”. The field is at a “polo club” that has never played polo. Some polo fields have polo played on it. Others are best for fishing.
Bomoh Story
Not officially allowed to acknowledge the use of Bomohs, the show director instead was told the term to use was “weatherman.” The rain came down in sheets, the wind howled and as the marquee lifted off she said, “That’s the last time I engage a ‘weatherman’ or whatever you want to call them.”
Give ‘Em Some Horse
An S-League Football club physiotherapist has been censured for using horse medicine on his players. Mirko Jelicic admitted using Domoso Roll-On. His players are said to have run like horses. Side effects are an unusual yearning for carrots, and being in TLOTB, an inability to jump very high.
Tote Board Pulls MAFEC Funding
The Totalisator Board is rumoured to have pulled funding for MAFEC from June 2006. The Malaysian Equine Council will take over this hot potato. Meanwhile the MSN boys have shifted from MAFEC back to STCEC.
Le Who? De What? Le Trec Les Techniques de Randonee Equestre de Competition is a new equestrian sport developed in France. The horse and rider combination are challenged as they orienteer their way through the countryside and combine trail riding with jumping and basic flat work. It appeals to a wide range of riders of any age and ability. It offers competitors the opportunity to ride together as small groups, pairs or individuals and so makes this a social competition. The competition is split into three phases, over one or two days. Jump-Off thinks it would take off in Malaysia, if only we could pronounce the name.
