It is with the deepest
regret that the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and the Doha
Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) announce that Mr Kim
Hyung-Chil (KOR) suffered a fatal accident while competing at the 15th
Asian Games, Eventing competition, Doha (QAT) on the morning of 7
December 2006.
Mr
Kim, 47, on the horse Bundaberg Black, hit the fence at obstacle eight
and had a somersault fall causing a fatal injury. The rider was on the
silver-winning Korean team at the 14th Asian Games held in Busan (KOR)
in 2002.
At every international Eventing competition, maximum consideration is given to the safety of horses and competitors.
A
message from Abdulla Khalid Al Qahtani, Director General of DAGOC, to
the President and Chef de Mission of the Korean National Olympic
Committee read: “I send my deepest sympathies on the sad loss of your
country’s rider Kim Hyung-Chil during the equestrian Cross Country
competition this morning. The competition has lost a noble and able
rider. Our prayers and thoughts are with you, the family of the
deceased and the whole team representing your nation in the 15th Asian
Games Doha 2006.”
