Indonesia loses Eventing team bronze on India's appeal
Friday, December 8th, 2006

India has been awarded the bronze medal in team eventing at the Doha Asian Games on appeal as Indonesia has a rider eliminated in the showjumping phase.

Andry Prasetyono (pic right) was eliminated for using roller spurs on Aswatama Sportzgirl in the show jumping phase.  Roller spurs are banned in Eventing, Athough they are allowed in dressage and pure jumping competitions.  Andry was
the same rider who was docked 25 penalties in the cross country phase yesterday for dangerous riding.

Andry's elimination meant that Indonesia had to count Asep Lesmana's score of 105.40 penalties instead of the 89.40 penalties that Andry had finished the event with.

It means that Indonesia finished on 246.20 total penalties, 1.90 penalties behind India's 244.90 penalties.

Britain's Andrew Griffiths, the technical delegate for equestrian eventing, said
"A protest was lodged to the eventing ground jury, after the completion of the eventing jumping competition, against the use of rowel spurs by the rider number 32, Indonesia's Andry Prasetyono with horse Aswatama Sportzgirl.

"After a full investigation the president and the members of the ground jury decided that the rider number 32, Prasetyono, in accordance with FEI rules for eventing, had competed with spurs not allowed and they had no option but to eliminate this competitor from the competition."

He added, "According to the above-mentioned decision the results of equestrian eventing are amended accordingly and the bronze medal goes to India."

The official results may be seen on the Doha Asian Games webiste here.
