Jump-Off 61

Four things greater than all things are Women and Horses and Power and War ~ Rudyard Kipling.

Not So SMART

Part of the new SMART Tunnel that is supposed to alleviate flooding in Kuala Lumpur runs under the Royal Selangor Polo Club. The tunnel has come in for criticism by all and sundry after floods inundated downtown Kuala Lumpur twice in a week.

Play in the RSPC Polo Masters continued with the polo ponies appropriately attired.

TLOTB Does It Again

The RMPA has suspended their International Polo League for 2007. None of the invited teams are playing in the tournament in Singapore while the Singapore Polo Club is embroiled in legal suits over their suspension of the captain of one of the International Teams.  Instead, Malaysian-based teams have chosen to play in the hastily formed RSPC Polo Masters in Kuala Lumpur.

Power & Speed & Jump-Off

New FEI Article Point 274.3.T was the talking point amongst officials at the Thailand Championship.  No riders went clear in Phase A of a Power & Speed class.  The judges decided to make their own Thai rule by calling riders on equal 4 faults back for an impromptu jump-off.

The ‘T’ in the new FEI Article Number refers to “For Thailand only.”

Generous Judges

Also at the Thailand Championship, a rider who had a knockdown didn’t bother crossing the finish line.  The generous judges still gave the rider a placing!

A Little Bit Country

What’s in a name?  Apparently enough to make the former Selangor Polo Country Club change its name to Selangor Country Club.  No polo was ever played in their basin, so the new name is perhaps more appropriate, if Kota Damansara can really be considered “in the country.”

Malaysia Boleh WEC

The FEI has backed down on a controversial qualification standard for the Terengganu 2008 World Endurance Championships.  It has reverted to a minimum qualification time of 13 hours 20 mins for the 160 km distance after a huge outcry, especially from Malaysian riders.  Malaysia Boleh.

Dashper Sold

Husref Malik Jeremiah has completed the sale of his Asian Games bronze medal winning horse Dashper to a Brunei owner.  Will we see a first ever Brunei entry in eventing at the SEA Games this December?

Zara Bounces

When the 11th in line to the British Throne gets thrown from a horse, it is big news.  World Champion Eventer Zara Phillips hit the deck when her horse Tsunami II banked the 7th fence at the Bramham International Horse Trials instead of jumping it cleanly.  Zara was unharmed, and as you can see from the photo right, our favourite eventer looks like she could bounce rather well.

Zara got no sympathy from her father and personal trainer Captain Mark Phillips, who said it was her mistake that caused the fall.

Are all trainers alike?

Jockey Fixes 200 Races

Top UK jockey Fran Ferris has sensationally confessed to riding in a staggering 200 fixed races.

And not even one in Malaysia!

Tastes Like Chicken?

British Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay says we should eat horse.  And he wasn’t referring Charles to Camilla.

Belgrade Horses 1 - Rolling Stones 0

A follow-up from Jump-Off 60: The Rolling Stones have been asked to change the venue for a concert in Belgrade to spare hundreds of horses from enduring a potentially traumatic experience.

Not the Top Dog

Pictures circulating the internet of Hercules as the world’s “biggest” dog are actually false, reports Snopes.

Whatever it is, this dog is almost as big the Arabian in the photo.  Ah, but can he can run 160 km in Terengganu with a rider on his back?
