AF2: Dato' JJ Elected Life President
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

by Peter Ibrahim Abisheganaden

The Equestrian Federation of Malaysia held their long awaited Annual General Meeting this morning.  As this was their first AGM since 2005 the meeting was titled NS-AGM, to denote that it was a “Not So Annual General Meeting.”

Dato’ Seri Dr JJ was re-elected President, despite Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s directive that Ministers should not head National Sports Association.  Not that it matters much, now that he is no longer in the new cabinet of Malaysia Baru.  He is in the cupboard, or on the shelf, or in the closet, so to speak.  The word on the street, or in the arena, is that our beloved President chose the Presidency over another term as a Minister.

In recognition of this, the meeting voted to amend the title of "President", to "President For Life".  The term of office would be 30 years, similar indeed to a life sentence.  It is debatable who the sentence penalises.

Vice President Dato' Apaa Namaa has been reelected for another lengthy term. ECM would publish a photo of this mysterious man who is largely unknown in the equestrian world, if only we could find a photo of him.  Many people in the equestrian community have asked to know if he really exists as he has been unsighted for the last 5 years since his election.

Secretary-General Lau Lan Chiao has again volunteered for another year to five of worry-free travel.  He did say, however, that it is getting tough to keep it up as he is an “old c*ck”.

No accounts were presented for the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.  Despite this, the incumbersome Hon. Treasurer was again returned to office.  Dr. Santa Klaus has once again promised he'll get to work on the 2003 accounts, just as soon as he finds out what an invoice is, having never issued one for his veterinary services.  Ever.

There was no contest for any of the available committee positions other than that of Honorary Treasurer.  It was at one point a close contest between Dr Klaus and prominent lawyer V K Lingum.  So close that it went to a recount.  However once a waiting helicopter delivered “postal votes” Dr Klaus was found to have won by over 5,000 votes.

Major Yup was retained as Executive Secretary and Tunku Nazruff as the Assistant Executive Secretary.  There was some speculation as to the legality of their appointment as neither were at the AGM.   Major Yup was at an airbase selling jetfighters while Nazruff was at a Beyonce concert in Thailand. Strangely enough Nazruff was sighted wearing a Filipino Equestrian Team shirt and was seen hanging out in the Hong Kong section of the event.

However, Lingum said, with regards to the appointments, it was the karek, karek, karek thing to do.  Lingum also tried to broker the Ground Juries of the World Endurance Championships, National Horse Show, Malaysian Open and the KL Grand Prix but was told that the Federation does not run any of these events.

In response to the Melinsung holocaust, the President For Life proposed that the owner of Melinsung-Auschwitz be elected as a committee member.  This would enable him as a committee member of the Federation to take action against the naughty SPCA who brought such dead horses to light.

The PFL, who also happens to be PFL of the Malaysian Equine Majlis, remarked that he would be co-opting the owner of Melinsung-Auschwitz to the MEM board in a new capacity of Mayor of Auschwitz-Sabah.

This NS-AGM was suddenly called, with back-dated notice of the meeting.  The President For Life said that this was “absolutely in order as the Federation has already backdated many items, such as the purchase of buildings and votes.”  We think he meant to say they had backdated purchases of buildings and “floats”, not votes.

No one objected to the back-dating of notice as no one was there at the meeting other than the incumbents.

In keeping with the present spread of years, the next NS-AGM was set for a date not earlier than 2020, by which time they hope to recover their Vision.
