Helena produces the genie from Aladdin's lamp

Helena Gabrielsson on King Power Aladdin again shows us how it is done, and wins the first SEA World Cup Qualifier for this year. She rides with her usual style and accuracy, and Aladdin is in top form. I still remember when Aladdin had that shocking injury and word was out that he would never jump again. I love how he proves them wrong time and time again.

John Vallance’s course is big, with fence 1 already asking questions of the riders. Set about 4 -5 strides away from the arena perimeter, this vertical is followed by an oxer near the in gate. Fences 3 – 4 is on a dog leg bend, and a blue wall at 5 and the Darul Ehsan wall at 7 follows. The first combination is set at 2 strides of vertical to oxer and the last treble is an oxer – vertical – vertical, set a short 1 stride apart. A triple bar with 4 short strides leads the way into this treble.

Qabil Ambak, who won the big class yesterday, is first out with Amadeus Van De Boswinning and has 4 faults in an otherwise good round.

Helana Gabrielsson and King Power Aladdin are clean over the big course.  First clear round!

Andika Jamaluddin has an awkward round on Chivas, losing his way once and earning 14 faults; a big difference from the poised ride we saw yesterday that earned him 3rd place in the big class.

Next out is Jennifer Chang and Luxor 91. Luxor shies very quickly at fence one and then puts in a dirty run out at the wall, eliminating Jen. Another Hong Kong rider, Jacqueline Lai has a good and positive round with an unlucky 4 faults. So far only one clear round!

Quzier Ambak has chosen to ride in the World Cup rather than play an RMPA International League polo match today.  Having had a sinus operation, Calano looks a much more agile and happier horse.   The big horse finds the tight treble a tad short and takes down the second element, finishing on 4 faults.

Syed Zain never had it right coming into the first two fences and retires at fence 7 with Linus.

Qabil’s second ride, Helu looks backed off and takes 2 rails. With Nixon, Helena’s second ride, she ends up with 17 faults after Nixon takes down the first fence, then 6, 10 and the last element of the treble.

As the only clear round, it is Helena’s and King Power Aladdin’s World Cup.  Helena, who represented Sweden in the World Cup in 2001 and 2006 said her horse was in very good form today and adapted well to the ground conditions although the weather was hot and humid today.

“The grounds at Taman Equestrian Putrajaya are perfect for the sport of equestrian and will certainly help produce more prominent riders in the near future,” said Gabrielsson who now works and lives in Thailand after receiving her prize from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.

Nine started the first World Cup round of the season, seven of which were eligible for World Cup points.

This looks like a good start to the SEA World Cup series.   There are four more legs to the South East Asian World Cup League in 2008.  The next leg, the Premier Cup Series 2 will be followed by three show at 3Q Equestrian: the 3QE Classic, Malaysia Open and Merdeka Masters.
