Asiapromote Ventures Sdn Bhd., a leading event manager and promoter in Malaysia, has been shortlisted for the Event Overlay/Facilities Category of the SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards 2008.
“We are very happy to have made it to the finals of the Event Overlay/Facilities award. This is certainly a great achievement for Asiapromote to be recognised internationally for excellence in what we do,” said Peter Imran Winton, Asiapromote’s Chief Executive Officer.
Winton added, “We are one of the six event management companies shortlisted for the Event Overlay/Facilities category, and we are up against events like the F1 Grand Prix of Europe and Beijing Olympics and Paralympic Games.
“We were asked by Nigel Rushman, the organiser of the SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards to submit the FEI 5-star KL Grand Prix 2007 for the awards.”
The SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards are the only awards recognising excellence in the global sports management industry. The objective of the Awards is to reward the best, the brightest and the most competent practitioners in the business of Major International Sports Events. It is open to any company that has played a role in the planning and management of an international sports event between August 2007 and August 2008, and the company can enter a suitable category or even several categories. Nominations can also be made by third parties.
There are 10 categories in the Awards – Ceremonies, Event Look, Event Marketing, Event Overlay/Facilities, Event Services, Event Technology, Hospitality, Outstanding Contribution, Security and SportBusiness Sports City Award.
The judging process is in two stages, the first will comprise an outline of the project, its scope execution and achievements. Then the shortlisted events may result in potential further evidence such as photographic or filmed material and examples of press coverage. The winner in each category will receive a gold award with the second and third place runners-up receiving a silver and bronze award respectively.
The Event Overlay/Facilities Category is judged on the broad merits of a project based on the creativity, architectural and managerial skills demonstrated in order to overcome the challenges of scale, deadlines, logistics and accessibility, availability of local resources and budget.
Nigel Rushman, Executive Chairman of Rushmans Ltd said, “With around 150 to choose from, stage one judges had an extremely difficult task to select fewer than 50 for the shortlist. I would like to thank every company and individual who entered and wish them every success for the future, even if they don’t win an award this time around.”
Final judging will be done by a panel of illustrious personalities including Jim Brown, FIFA Competitions’ Executive Director; Sir Craig Reede, Member Olympic Programme Commission; Dr Irvin Khoza, FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 Chairman; Ian Ritchie, Chief Executive of The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club; Campbell Jamieson, Commercial Manager, International Cricket Council and Rob Holt, Chief Executive Ryder Cup Wales.
