National rider Qabil Ambak, astride new stallion Acapulco, was denied a win in Class 44 Masters Cup (130cm), the main event on the final day of the 2009 Premier Cup Series at the Putrajaya Equestrian Park yesterday.

Hong Kong’s Jennifer Chang (pic) made a stunning comeback to competitive riding by winning the class with a total of four faults in a time of 52.26 seconds.

Astride Luxor 91, the Premier Cup Series was her first event after giving birth to a baby boy nine weeks ago.

“I had a clean ride in the first phase but got lucky in the second as Qabil dropped a pole, giving me the win,” said Jennifer, who leads the Master Circuit championship with a total of 35 points after three events.

Qabil, 28, clocked a time of 54.87, with a pole down and four faults. As a consolation, he also bagged third place astride Amadeus van de Boswinning.

NST: Qabil has to settle for second best

QABIL Ambak and his new stallion Acapulco did not get a winning start in the Class 44 Masters Cup (130cm) of the Premier Cup series at the Putrajaya Equestrian Park yesterday.
The 28-year-old national rider could only finish second to Hong Kong's Jennifer Chang who won with a total four faults in a time of 52.26 seconds.

Jennifer, who gave birth to a baby boy just nine weeks ago, rode Luxor 91.

"I had a clean ride in the first phase but got lucky in the second when Qabil dropped a pole in the second phase, giving me the win," said Jennifer.

Qabil only managed to clock 54.87 seconds also with a pole down with four faults.
"I miscalculated the strides between jumps which resulted in a few faults," said Qabil who represented the 3Q Equestrian Centre.

A total of 123 horses and 109 riders from 15 clubs from Hong Kong, Thailand, Sweden, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and Malaysia featured in the four-day event which ended yesterday.
