South East Asian Equestrian Championships postponed to 2012

The Thailand Equestrian Federation (TEF) has had to postpone the South East Asian Equestrian Championships that were due to be held next month to 2012. Already once postponed from December 2009 to February 2010, TEF Secretary General Lt Col. Sam Aniruth-Deva issued a statement today saying the postponement to 2012 was due to insufficient entries.
It was learnt that while the TEF and the hosts, Thai Polo & Equestrian Club, were keen to host this inaugural event, other than the host nation, only Myanmar and Japan submitted entries.
None of the big South East Asian equestrian countries submitted entries, other than the hosts.
The Philippine Equestrian Federation has been fighting a battle for Presidential control. Singapore has been deterred by a tough horse health protocol that could take them six months to get their horses home after competing in Thailand. Malaysia has not entered as they were unable to get funding for this event from their National Sports Council. Indonesia faced a high cost of horse travel to Pattaya for these games.
It is hoped that the South East Asian Equestrian Championships will get off the ground in 2012, and the organisers are encouraged to keep working at making it easier for foreign countries to participate.
