Philippines-Indonesia Dual Meet 2010

Last week, the Philippines successfully hosted the first leg of their International Exchange Program - the Philippines-Indonesia Dual Meet in Manila, Philippines.  The return leg will be held later this year in Indonesia.

The following article was provided to Equestrian.Com.My by Carissa Coscolluela, who also sent it to EAP Members.

Because of the challenges posed by our geographic location and the prohibitive costs of horse transportation, it is important that we afford our riders, especially the young up and coming ones, the opportunity to gain exposure in international competition.  They need not only to experience international standards but also to be able to foster a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among other international teams.  This will be the foundation of our country's competitiveness on the regional and global equestrian stage.

In a borrowed horse competition such as the Dual Meet we just held, the host country lends horses to the competing teams, with horse assignments based on a draw where no local rider is allowed to ride his own horse.  This ensures fairness and a level playing field in the competition.  It is the agreement with the invited country that they will host a reciprocal event in their country after the event here.  Within the next month or two, the Philippine Young Rider Team to the Philippines-Indonesia Dual Meet will travel to Jakarta to compete in the reciprocal event.

The Dual Meet saw Philippine riders Regina Gonzales, Fernan Tensuan, Lucas Lorenzo, and Mateo Lorenzo compete against the Indonesian Team composed of Alvaro Menayane, Dennis Christian, Alyssa Prameswari, and Rashwara Radinal.  After two exciting rounds, yielding even faults for both teams, time kicked in as the final arbiter for the winner - with Indonesia, two seconds faster in cumulative time, bagging the prize.

In the Individual event, where only the score of the second round counted, Indonesia's Alyssa Prameswari came away the winner, followed by Lucas Lorenzo for the silver, and then Regina Gonzales for the bronze.  We further congratulate Regina Gonzales for being the only Philippine rider with a double clear!  The Indonesians also had a double clear in Dennis Christian.

The organizing committee would like to thank all the sponsors, officials, volunteers, and supporters (those who lent their horses, their time, and their talents!), who helped put together the successful event.  We'd also like to thank Atty. Tony Meer who allowed us to present the winners at the Meer Cup polo tournament at the Main Polo Field that day, and who welcomed our participants to the fabulous cocktail party after.

Below you will find the complete results of the event, and photos are attached here as well.

Your EAP is working with other national equestrian federations, riding clubs, and equestrian groups in the region to ensure that we have more events such as this one so that we can continue to uplift the level of our sport and the capabilities of our riders.
